Students infected with coronavirus – get tested and stay home if you have symptoms
Several students at Uppsala University have been confirmed infected with the coronavirus. It is very important to stay at home if you have cold-like symptoms, get tested for COVID-19 and follow the general recommendations to reduce the spread of infection.
Over 20 students in the Medicine Programme have been confirmed infected with the coronavirus. Traditional-style teaching for students in semester five of the Medicine Programme has been suspended and replaced by online instruction.
“Contact tracing has now been completed for the cases we have had in semester seven and those cases are now considered closed. However, contact tracing is currently in progress for the cases in semester five. We can likely expect local outbreaks now and then during the autumn semester,” says Bertil Lindahl, chair of the programme committee in the Medicine Programme.
It is particularly important that all students stay at home and get tested for COVID-19 if they have even the slightest symptoms of a cold.
“And then of course you should be doing the same sorts of things as previously – stay at home if you feel sick, sneeze into the crook of your arm, wash your hands frequently and stay two metres apart whenever you can. All this guidance still applies,” says Johan Nöjd, infection control doctor in Region Uppsala.
In addition, those students who have on-campus teaching should, if possible, cycle or walk rather than taking the bus to campus.
