Botanical Garden and campuses closed on 30 April

“Of course it’s disappointing that the 30 April events have to be cancelled again, it will be a normal day with remote working and studying. But the infection situation in the Uppsala region is serious, the health services are working under great pressure and it’s important that we all take responsibility,” says Fredrik Blomqvist, Chief Security Officer and coronavirus coordinator at the University.

The decision to close the campus and the Botanical Garden is based on the University’s risk analysis following the earlier decision by Uppsala Municipality to close Ekonomikum Park. The intention is to prevent individuals who do not comply with the recommendations from going to these places and contributing to crowds in University areas.

All campus areas will be closed. Access will be granted to staff and to any students who may have compulsory in-person activities that particular day. The gates to the Botanical Garden will also be kept locked.

“Our cooperation with other actors in the Uppsala region is excellent, we share our status reports on a continuous basis and we have developed our joint crisis preparedness considerably during the coronavirus period,” says Blomqvist.

The guided tours at the gardens come under the recommendations for museums, which are in effect until 31 May. The opening of the Linnaeus Museum and Linnaeus Garden and the Tropical Greenhouse has therefore been postponed until 1 June.
