Juridikbok.se – legal literature online

After over a year of preparation, the website juridikbok.se has now gone live.

“The website has been very well received since its launch on 24 June,” says Torbjörn Ingvarsson, professor of private law at Uppsala University’s Department of Law, who has been involved in the project since day one.

“At the moment, the most common questions we are asked are why a given book isn’t available or whether more books will be added on labour law, intellectual property, administrative law or some other subject close to the inquirer’s heart. No subject, author or book has been deliberately excluded. We are working to gradually include as much out-of-print Swedish and Swedish-language legal literature as possible. So, there is more to come!”

The Juridikbok.se project and website is funded by Stiftelsen för tillgängliggörande av juridisk litteratur [Foundation for Making Legal Literature Available] and inspiration was drawn from the Danish project Jurabog, run by Professor Mads Bryde Andersen at the University of Copenhagen.

The foundation has no commercial interests. Among its directors are representatives of jurisprudence, the legal profession, the judiciary, university libraries and legal publishers. The chair of the foundation is Justice of the Supreme Court Johnny Herre and the deputy chair is Torbjörn Ingvarsson. The foundation also has links to a network of researchers assist in obtaining consent to digitise publications from the higher education institutions with which they are affiliated.

“I am delighted that the foundation is able to contribute to making legal literature available to more people,” says Torbjörn Ingvarsson. “Easier access to legal literature can only improve jurisprudence and the substance of submissions to the courts, while students will be able to obtain many of the books they need for writing assignments and academic papers. While it may not be a revolution, it is an important step.”
