A law student from Uppsala University winner of academic paper competition

The Swedish Competition Authority’s 2021 academic paper competition for students of law and students of economics was recently decided. First prize in the law category went to Linn Sydvik, who completed her Degree of Master of Laws last summer.
Linn, who shares the first prize with Emma Fröderberg Shaiek from Stockholm University, received SEK 20 000 for her paper entitled “Direct procurement following a lengthy review process”.

The explanatory statement reads as follows:
“The public sector procures goods and services for many millions of SEK every year, and it is not uncommon for public procurements to be subject to judicial review. Many contracting authorities are faced with the question of whether it is possible to make direct awards of contracts in cases of extreme urgency where a judicial review process is taking a long time. The paper presents Swedish case-law in a systematic and commendable way and also analyses it in the light of EU law. By choosing a highly topical question, the paper can prove useful to many stakeholders.”
The Swedish Competition Authority’s academic paper competition is held annually. The paper must deal with a competition- or procurement-related topic at Bachelor’s, Master’s (60 credits) or Master’s (120 credits) level, and has a total prize sum of SEK 100 000.
