Kenneth Wärnmark awarded the Ulla and Stig Holmquist Prize
Kenneth Wärnmark, professor at Lund University, has been selected to receive the 2022 Ulla and Stig Holmquist Science Prize in Organic Chemistry. He is recognised for his pioneering work in the fields of supramolecular chemistry and organic synthesis.
The Ulla and Stig Holmquist Science Prize in Organic Chemistry is awarded annually to a researcher in the field of organic chemistry whose main work has been done in Sweden and who has done pioneering work in that discipline. The prize is worth SEK 1.6 million.

Professor Kenneth Wärnmark is recognised for his pioneering work in the fields of supramolecular chemistry and organic synthesis. Wärnmark’s research is mainly focused on supramolecular chemistry and catalysis. His elegant development of new and advanced synthesis methodology has enabled important changes to the physico-chemical properties of substances. His introduction of N-heterocyclic carbene ligands has been instrumental in the development of iron-based photochemistry, and more recently his development of iron-based dyes for environmentally friendly solar cells and solar fuel has attracted attention. His introduction of iron complexes in practical energy-generating systems is expected to be of major significance in the future. Wärnmark’s research is of the highest international standard.
