Lovisa Helmius is awarded the prize for the best degree project in real estate law.

This year's prize for the best degree project in Environmental Law goes to Lovisa Helmius, who in her degree project based on scientific knowledge, tackles both environmental law and tort law issues.

Best degree thesis in Real Estate Law
The thesis "Between Neighbours and Nature Responsibility and Risk for Spruce Bark Beetle Infestations in Forests"is awarded the prize for the best degree project 2022 by the Institute for Property Law Research (IFF) at Uppsala University.

In her thesis, Lovisa Helmuis links both public law and tort law liability to spruce bark beetle attacks, which includes highly topical issues that, in line with climate change, will grow in relevance.

In the nomination text, it is announced that the author takes on this tricky and rather unexplored area of high ambition and independence. In addition to extensive material studies of a wide range of sources, the author has endeavoured to establish contact with practitioners at authorities and forest companies as well as with researchers in the natural sciences to create a pre-understanding of how spruce bark beetles affect forests and, by extension, what legal consequences this has.

The author is awarded SEK 10,000, which will be awarded in Uppsala on Fastighetsrättens dag on October 11. Supervisor has been Maria Forsberg, senior lecturer in environmental law
