Agnes Wold to receive honorary doctorate from Uppsala University
The faculties at Uppsala University have now decided who they want to award honorary doctorates to this year. In all, 24 honorary doctorates will be awarded. One of the recipients is Agnes Wold, Professor of Clinical Bacteriology at Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg and senior consultant at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
Wold is a specialist in the normal bacterial flora of the gut and its interaction with the immune system, particularly allergies and inflammatory bowel diseases. She is also active in various media and frequently debates common health myths.
Wold has published several high-profile articles showing that women have been systematically disadvantaged in academic appointments, and that women have had to have significantly better academic credentials than men to succeed in applications for posts and research grants.
Professor Wold is one of nine new honorary doctors at the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Awarding honorary doctorates
An honorary doctorate, doctor honoris causa, is the title conferred upon individuals who have done outstanding academic work or in some other way promoted research at the University. The title is in the gift of the faculties themselves, not the Vice-Chancellor or University Management. The Conferment Ceremony for new honorary doctors will be held in the University Main Building on 27 January 2023.
