Joel Samuelsson, Gustaf Almkvist and Mikael Ruotsi receive prestigious awards

Joel Samuelsson, Professor of Private Law, Gustaf Almkvist, Senior Lecturer in Criminal Law, and Mikael Ruotsi, Senior Lecturer in Constitutional Law, have been awarded the Emil Heijne Foundation's award for meritorious and valuable contributions to legal research.
Just before Christmas, Joel Samuelsson received the Emil Heijne Foundation’s award for meritorious contributions to legal research. On the same occasion, Gustaf Almkvist and Mikael Ruotsi received the Emil Heijne Foundation's award for valuable contributions to legal research. The prize is awarded by the foundation, which is administered by the Swedish Bar Association and whose board consists of representatives from various parts of the legal system.
The award amounts to SEK 250 000 and SEK 100 000, respectively.

Joel Samuelsson's work mainly concerns fundamental issues in the law of contract. A forthcoming book deals with Swedish agency law, and he is currently working on a project on the problem of interpretative scepticism and truth in our authoritarian age.

Gustaf Almkvist's research focuses on three main themes: economic crime, the sanctions system, and the general conditions for criminal liability. His dissertation Förmögenhetsbrott och förmögenhetsrätt (Property Offences and Private Law) deals with questions of the role of private law in the interpretation of the property offences. Almkvist has previously published a monograph on confiscation as a specific legal effect of crime, Förverkande av egendom, 2014.

Mikael Ruotsi is a researcher in constitutional law. His dissertation Swedish Freedom of Expression and International Law addresses the importance of international law for the interpretation of the Swedish constitutional laws, the Freedom of the Press Act and the Fundamental Law on Freedom of Expression. Ruotsi is currently working on a project with the working title How can the constitution be a safeguard for democracy and the rule of law? - constitutional amendments and judicial review.
