Peetra Magnusson, a researcher at Uppsala University, will be awarded a grant of SEK 250,000 for her groundbreaking research in neuroscience, from Bissen Brainwalk. The organisation collects donations from private individuals for the benefit of brain research.

Peetra Magnusson researches vascular malformations of the brain, in particular cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM), which can cause stroke. She studies the molecular mechanisms behind the disease, including the role of blood clots in the development of cavernomas. The aim is to identify biomarkers and develop pharmacological treatments for CCM.

The SEK 250,000 grant will be used to continue and develop Magnusson’s research.

“It means a great deal to receive this type of grant, collected by private individuals, with all the commitment that lies behind it,” says Magnusson.

Welcome extra funding for research

The grant will be used to perform analyses of cell and tissue material in the search for biomarkers of CCM.

“It will be welcome extra funding for our research. In the long run, we hope to find target molecules for treating CCM. Today, there is no treatment for these patients,” Magnusson explains.

Bissen Brainwalk aims to support and promote research that can help improve the quality of life of people around the world. The grant to Magnusson recognises her impressive work and supports her continued research.

“We are proud to be able to support Peetra Magnusson and her important work. Her research has the potential to make a real difference to many people, and we look forward to following her progress,” says Mathias ‘Bissen’ Larsson, founder of Brainwalk.
