Six spin-off companies from Uppsala University are finalists at the Entrepreneurial Gala in Uppsala 2025. They dominate two of the gala's six categories: Innovation of the Year and Future Outlook of the Year. On 10 April, these companies will be recognised at Uppsala Castle alongside other finalists, with winners in each category being announced.

The Entrepreneurial Gala is an event to honour, celebrate, and rejoice with Uppsala's successful entrepreneurs. Based on nominations, three companies have been selected in each of the gala's six different categories. On 10 April, all this year's finalists will be presented, and a winner will be crowned in each category.

Six spin-off companies from Uppsala University are finalists this year, filling the finalist spots in the Innovation of the Year and Future Outlook of the Year categories.

Malin Graffner Nordberg, head of UU Innovation and chair of the jury for the Innovation of the Year category, comments:

"It is fantastic to see how the innovative power at Uppsala University is so well represented at Uppsala's Entrepreneurial Gala. The researchers at our university repeatedly show that they can transform their ideas into solutions that benefit not only Uppsala but the entire world. Their efforts deserve all the attention."

Innovation of the Year

Gradientech: Specialises in ultra-rapid and precise diagnostics of antibiotic resistance, which can improve the treatment of blood infections and reduce the spread of resistant bacteria.

Rarity Bioscience: Provides a technology platform for advanced mutation analysis of blood samples that can be used on existing laboratory equipment, enabling advances in medical research and the treatment of cancer patients.

Altris: A pioneer in safe and sustainable sodium-ion battery technology rooted in research at the Ångström Laboratory. The battery technology is particularly suitable for large-scale energy storage, low-voltage applications, and the maritime market.

Future Outlook of the Year

Mind Intelligence Lab: Offers AI-based tools for text analysis to identify threatening digital communication and predict unwanted behaviours.

Stardots: Develops a digital health platform to measure and optimise the treatment of neurological diseases, initially focusing on Parkinson's disease.

Readily Diagnostics: Develops diagnostic tests for infectious diseases. The technology enables the rapid detection of various viruses and bacteria without advanced equipment, facilitating early and accurate patient treatment.

Liza Löf, a researcher at Uppsala University and CEO of Readily Diagnostics, which she co-founded in 2022, says:

"We are incredibly happy and honoured to be finalists in the Future Outlook of the Year category. Being recognised in this way gives us a lot of energy to continue our work developing and producing tests that detect viruses and bacteria causing infectious diseases."
