Uppsala University’s events during Kulturnatten 2025

During Kulturnatten (Culture Night) in Uppsala on 13 September 2025, a variety of events organised by Uppsala University will take place as usual. Here you will find an overview and a selection of events.
Carolina Rediviva – Uppsala University Library
Vice-Chancellor Anders Hagfeldt presents the 2025 Disa Prize to archaeologist and author Neil Price, who receives the award for his book Children of Ash and Elm: A History of the Vikings. In connection with the award ceremony, Price will give a lecture entitled “Revisiting the Viking Age”.
Other lectures, tours of the Book Hall in Swedish and English, displays of Anders Bure's monumental map from 1626 and Elsa Beskow's drawings in the exhibition hall, a sing-along with the choir Gluntarnas vänner, a drawing corner and treasure hunt in the café, and more.
The Museum of Evolution
Guided family tours about whales, sharks, orcas and extinct sea reptiles such as ichthyosaurs and mosasaurs. Create your own sea animals – we supply the materials and you bring your imagination! Take your animal home or display it at the museum.
Gustavianum – Uppsala University Museum
Uppsala's various student nations invite you to a colourful Culture Night at Gustavianum with skits, choir music, storytelling and an “autopsy of an Uppsala student”.
Musicum
Open rehearsal with the Royal Academic Orchestra. Meet conductor Stefan Karpe and members of the orchestra. Bring your own instrument and join a trial rehearsal. Free drinks and snacks.
The Royal Academic Orchestra performs chamber music and the Uppsala University Jazz Orchestra presents a delightful jazz concert featuring a varied programme, ranging from timeless classics to exciting new pieces.
The Linnaean Gardens of Uppsala
The Botanical Garden provides an ambient setting for moving meditation, martial arts, classical and choir music, and a traditional fire show. Workshops and concerts in and around Linneanum. Explore the Tropical Greenhouse and hear the frogs sing. Improvised story telling by Teater OK in the south part of the garden.
Visit the Linnaeus Garden at its peak season. Join a guided tour of the garden to learn more about the plants and the history of Sweden's first botanical garden. Watch a colourful outdoor play, telling the story of Uppsala with a focus on the time of Linnaeus. Open house in the Linnaeus Museum, the home of the Linnaeus family and Linnaeus’s workplace. Scientific talks and 18th century dance in the Orangery.
Have a Swedish fika at Linnaeus’ Hammarby, join a guided tour of the manor, or take a walk in the park and the cultural reserve.
Listen to an UppTalk seminar by Mario Vallejo-Marin, Department of Plant Ecology and Evolution: “What’s the ‘buzz’ about? Bees, flowers and the evolution of buzz-pollination”.
University Main Building
Opening ceremony in the stairwell, followed by the Nations' choirs and orchestras in the University Auditorium. Listen to lectures, take a tour of the Faculty Rooms and listen to choir music in the stairwell with Allmänna sången.
