A vote in the Electoral College has confirmed that Vice-Chancellor Anders Hagfeldt and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Coco Norén have strong support for another term of office.

The Electoral College has 65 members and one of its functions is to serve as consultative assembly in the process of proposing a vice-chancellor and appointing a deputy vice-chancellor. The vote in the Electoral College took place after the College had had a chance to put questions to the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor. The vote resulted in around 90 per cent of members supporting the reappointment of the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor to another term of office.

Next steps

The results of the vote will now be submitted to the University Board’s recruitment committee. The recruitment committee in turn will deliver a proposal to the University Board for decision.

The decision is scheduled for the University Board’s meeting on 6 November 2025. As the Vice-Chancellor is appointed by the government, the University Board will decide whether to propose to the government that the Vice-Chancellor be reappointed or to launch a recruitment process in open competition. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, on the other hand, is appointed by the University Board, which may decide to reappoint the Deputy Vice-Chancellor or to initiate an open competition recruitment process.
