Asta Dahlqvist, a student at Uppsala University, wins the Green Act Award for her work for a sustainable future.

Out of over 500 nominees, Asta Dahlqvist is the 2025 winner of the Green Act Award. Asta is studying political science at Uppsala University and has been awarded the scholarship for her courageous and persevering leadership to bring about the green transition.

Every year, Adlibris gives the Green Act Award to a student who is working for a more sustainable world, along with a scholarship of SEK 50,000. Uppsala student Asta Dahlqvist received the Award for her work with the Climate Students Movement (Klimatstudenterna) and Plant-Based Universities.

“It can be really difficult to know where to start, what strategies to use, and how to progress from idea to reality. Through spreading knowledge, my goal is to be able to give all students a platform to implement the change they want to see in the world, no matter what their area of study and prior experience,” says Asta Dahlqvist.

Asta Dahlqvist is 23 years old and is studying political science at Master’s level at Uppsala University.

Asta’s work is an impressive and long-term effort to build climate movements at Nordic universities, which is crucial for people to be able to channel their engagement for the climate and to drive concrete change in large institutions. Her inclusive leadership is inspiring and leads to more people getting involved,” says Linnéa Hård af Segerstad, Sustainability Manager at Adlibris.

The jury’s motivation reads:

“Given that climate challenges require both courage and collective action, Asta has shown that universities can be one of the driving forces in the green transition. Through her work in Climate Students Uppsala, she has put environmental and climate issues high up on Uppsala University’s agenda, and inspired higher education institutions throughout Sweden to follow suit. As coordinator for Plant-Based Universities in chapters at 15 Nordic universities, Asta is building strong networks that unite students, higher education institutions and research in the pursuit of a more sustainable future.

“For Asta, community is fundamental to change. With lessons learned from social movements and a way of working based on theory as well as practical experience, she is being rewarded for her work in creating spaces for respectful conversations and constructive solutions. Asta builds social movements where she successfully engages and involves many, and she demonstrates a particular ability to drive change through dialogue – one conversation at a time.”
