Co-occurrence of loss of Y and clonal hematopoiesis in ageing men
A study published in Leukemia has revealed that loss of chromosome Y and clonal hematopoiesis often co-occur in ageing men. Clinical Genomics Uppsala performed gene panel sequencing and analysis of sequence data.
Clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) and mosaic loss of chromosome Y (LOY) are two age-related phenomena that have individually been observed in the healthy population but also has been associated with different diseases. In a recently published study, led by Jan Dumanski, Panagiotis Baliakas and Lars Forsberg, the presence of CHIP was investigated in healthy men with known LOY-status. It was found that LOY and CHIP often co-occur in ageing men, which may have important clinical applications.
Clinical Genomics Uppsala sequenced the samples using a Trusight panel targeting 54 genes that are often mutated in myeloid malignancies. Tatjana Pandzic and Lucia Cavelier from Clinical Genomics Uppsala also contributed to the analysis of the variants detected in the gene panel data.
