How can universities serve the needs of free and independent knowledge for democratic societies, while catering for demands from students, politicians, and the general public to serve their needs and expectations? This will be the topic of this afternoon as the research program Democracy and Higher Education present the start of “A week on Academic Freedom”. The afternoon will hold discussions of current challenges to the freedom of teaching and attempts to control the curricula in US higher education, and about challenges to academic freedom in Europe and efforts to influence the EU to take action to protect it. Welcome!
