Over a decade has passed since the mass protests of La Manif pour Tous in France, where demonstrators carried banners reading "Non à la théorie du genre." This pivotal moment marked the public emergence of anti-gender mobilizations as significant political actors and a subject of social research, particularly within studies of social movements.

This lecture explores the evolution of knowledge produced by this emerging field over the past decade, examining the theoretical tools and concepts developed to understand the phenomenon of anti-gender movements. It will also identify gaps in our understanding of the causes and successes of these movements. The lecture will also showcase how feminist and LGBT+ movements have responded to these challenges and how their responses transitioned from defensive reactions to proactive strategies of "productive resistance" in countering the anti-gender agenda. The final part of the lecture will highlight pressing gaps in the field and propose some directions for future research.
The lecture will be followed by the panel about the role of universities in resisting anti-democratic tendencies, the significance of collegiality, the pedagogical strategies but also what it means to do and disseminate research in times of anti-intellectual backlash.
Registration (no later than December 2)
