Research Director
The research program on Democracy and Higher Education is entering an expansive phase and is seeking a Research Director, who will also serve as Deputy Program Director, to work alongside the Program Director and Research Coordinator to strengthen and further develop the program's research.
The research director's duties consist of participating in and supporting research within the program's two focus areas, participating in the evaluation of applications for research projects and visiting researcher programs, and participating in the program management's ongoing work. The duties include developing the scientific content by designing and implementing a joint publication strategy for the program, and by initiating and supporting work with research applications to external funding agencies. The planning and organization of scientific activities shall contribute to establishing Uppsala University and the program as a nationally and internationally leading research environment for issues on democracy and higher education. The duties also include outreach activities for the program. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the rest of the program management.
We are looking for someone who is at the level of associate professor or above, and who is permanently employed at a department within the field of humanities and social sciences at Uppsala University. As research leader, you should have a strong position within your field and, preferably, experience of research within the program's thematic area. Experience of working with larger research projects or programs is meritorious, as is previous experience of working with scientific journals and other forms of publications (e.g., as a journal editor). The assignment corresponds to 30% of a full-time position, or as agreed, and runs until December 31, 2027. Start date by agreement in Spring 2026.
The research director, who is also the deputy program director, will be appointed after a qualitative overall assessment of competence and the person judged to have the best abilities for carrying out and developing current tasks and contributing to the positive development of the program.
The research director is appointed by the board after consultation with the program director.
