The GaW database is being updated!
With funding from the Swedish Research Council, the GaW database was built by systems analysts at CEDAR, Umeå University, in the period 2008-2011. As digital technology has developed rapidly since then, the database is currently being modernized and significantly improved with funding from Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. The objective is an even better database fitted for research about work and other forms of everyday practice in the past. The project is an exceptional example of teamwork within the digital humanities: just as ten years ago, construction presupposes close collaboration between the historians in Uppsala and the systems analysts in Umeå. The result will be a unique tailor-made resource for analyzing and storing data of interest to historians, linguists, lexicographers, archaeologists, geographers, and many others.
This little film gives an example of what the new user interface will look like.
