Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global health crisis that threatens the effectiveness of modern medicine. Personalized infection medicine—tailoring treatment of individual patients based on rapid antibiotic susceptibility testing and species identification—offers a promising path forward, but major challenges remain. This project aims to identify critical unmet needs in this field and explore how emerging technologies can address them, with a focus on areas where Sweden has unique strengths and global impact potential.The initiative brings together an internationally leading network of researchers with complementary expertise in technology development and AMR research. The consortium includes national experts and an international collaboration with Harvard University, leveraging shared expertise in AMR technologies and fostering transatlantic biotech innovation.The project will be carried out through a series of collaborative activities designed to refine and operationalize the research agenda for a potential future Vetenskapsrådet excellence cluster. These activities include a study trip to engage with frontline healthcare challenges, and two national workshops with key opinion leaders, clinicians, and social scientists to identify diagnostic bottlenecks and explore interdisciplinary solutions.
