The WiseEST platform – Enabling Sustainable Technology Transitions

WiseEST supports sustainable technology transitions by providing a specialized, application-focused testing and analysis facility, along with tribological expertise.
Too often, sustainable technology transitions are hindered by unexpected friction and wear issues, and WiseEST aims to address these challenges effectively. Gaining deeper understanding and valuable insights into optimizing new materials, coatings, and lubricants will help ensure that sustainable solutions become competitive, widely accepted, and extensively adopted.
WiseEST has two nodes, equipped with advanced tools and extensive experience in both tribological testing and materials analysis. More information about each node can be found on their respective pages.
Uppsala node: Tribomaterials Group at Uppsala University
Luleå node: Machine Elements Division at Luleå Technical University
With funding form WISE
WiseEST is funded by the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE), which supports investments in new equipment at the two labs in Uppsala and Luleå through its research technology platforms (RTPs) scheme. This funding has enabled the acquisition of advanced testing equipment for evaluating materials under relevant, demanding, and application-mimicking conditions, complementing the existing resources of the two tribology groups.
Additionally, WISE has supported the procurement of state-of-the-art materials analysis tools, incorporating techniques that push the boundaries of what is possible.
