Catalyst grants

We now invite researchers, faculty and staff at Uppsala University to express interest to develop ideas for programmatic approaches for new and innovative research that can fit under and be part of the new institute. We are looking for ideas for which a grant can act as a catalyst to further action and development. Grants ranging from 150,000 to 500,000 SEK will be awarded. Planned activities could include but are not limited to:

• Pilot studies
• Proof of concept studies
• Platforms to catalyze action and development
• Networking
• Research proposal writing
• Donor interaction
• Small, discrete research projects with significant impacts

Proposals should include (Maximum 4 pages):

• A description of the programmatic idea:
  • Research area and topic
  • Rationale
  • Current and potential collaborators (at UU and beyond)
  • Current funding or future funding possibilities
  • A description of how the grant can act as a catalyst
  • A description of how the grant can benefit and strengthen the institute
  • If any, the need for further financial support beyond the initial grant
• Work plan
  • Timeline
  • Milestones and deliverables must be specified
• Budget
  • Specified costs
  • Departmental overhead costs up to 25% will be covered. A letter from Head of Department should accompany the application stating that co-financing of overhead costs exceeding 25% will be covered by the department if such should be the case.

We will accept applications continuously. A scientific collegium consisting of senior faculty will meet and discuss applications on the following dates (applications submitted one week prior will be assessed):

First round: 2024-11-26
Second round: 2025-03-06
Third round: 2025-05-15
