Pharmaceuticals are essential for modern healthcare. However, increasing global consumption is damaging wildlife, disrupting ecosystems and contributing to antimicrobial resistance. Björn Wettermark, Professor, and Marmar Nekoro, industrial PhD student at the Department of Pharmacy, are in their research addressing how we can reduce the polluting side effects of pharmaceutical consumption.

During this breakfast at UUniCORN, we will gain an insight into how Uppsala University, including Campus Gotland, collaborates with the University of the Highlands and Islands in Scotland to exchange learning and best practices for developing sustainable routines in the use of medicines.

The project Bridging waters – a One Health Partnership to tackle societal challenges around Sustainable Use of Drugs aims to establish a long-term collaboration between the partners and to jointly address goal conflicts linked to pharmaceutical pollution, water quality, climate change and the interconnected health of humans, animals and ecosystems.

Come share a coffee and your thoughts with us. Please register by Tuesday, March 11, if you would like coffee and a sandwich; otherwise, no pre-registration is required.

UUniCORN, the Institute for Research on Goal Conflicts in Sustainable Societal Transformation, is part of UUniFI, Uppsala University Future Institutes.
