Current climate policies are unlikely to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, and there is an urgent need for innovative strategies to sustain forest biodiversity and ecosystem services. The ANAFOR project, an interdisciplinary initiative addresses social and policy barriers to how Sweden’s forests can adapt to a rapidly changing climate.

This seminar introduces the ANAFOR project, an interdisciplinary initiative addressing how Sweden’s forests can adapt to a rapidly changing climate.

A central focus of the project is assisted migration (AM), an emerging approach that involves the intentional movement of species to areas projected to become climatically suitable. The seminar will present the concept of AM, including its potential benefits, risks, and relevance for both natural and production forest systems.

An overview of the ANAFOR project will be provided, including its structure, interdisciplinary methods, and key research components. Particular attention will be given to social and policy barriers to the implementation of assisted migration, as well as opportunities to overcome them.

The seminar will also outline planned activities for the coming years and the project’s ambition to deliver science-based guidance for forest stakeholders. It will conclude with an opportunity for discussion and questions.

About the speaker:
Malgorzata Blicharska is a UUniCORN Fellow with her project ANAFOR. This project is centred on assisted natural adaptation, and Blicharska is the work package leader (WP leader) for the analyses of socio-political goal conflicts within this process.

Come share a coffee and your thoughts with us. Please register by Wednesday, 15 April, if you would like coffee/tea and a sandwich; otherwise, no pre-registration is required.

This seminar is organised by UUniCORN, a part of UUniFI, Uppsala University Future Institutes.
