More networks up and running!

The network on “Competing Interests in Land Use and Access” is now also up and running. The project will investigate the political institutions and rules of the game that influence how these conflicts are managed, and under what conditions they can contribute to sustainable solutions for different interests and social groups.

A starting point for the network is the idea that many of the obstacles in the sustainable transition are political rather than technical. The goal of Monday’s workshop was to get to know each other and gain knowledge and understanding of each other's research problems and methods, as well as to identify common points of interest.
The initiators of the network are Emma Elfversson, Anna Jarstad, Anders Sjögren, and Johanna Söderström, and they were all pleased with the day.
- We found numerous shared points of interest in our research areas, and everyone who participated expressed a strong interest in continuing to network. We believe that much of the collaboration will develop organically through continued networking and hope that this will lead to more developed ideas, such as joint research applications,” they said after the workshop.
In this particular network, researchers from social science and natural science disciplines—such as political science, human geography, and geosciences—come together, and there are several advantages to reaching across disciplinary boundaries.
- Many of these issues are so complex that our own subject-specific expertise is not quite enough. Ideally, we can complement one another without compromising our own areas of competence.”
