From the Disciplinary Domain Board 9 April 2025

On 9 April 2025, the Disciplinary Board for Humanities and Social Sciences decided to support the proposal to integrate the Centre for Integrated Research on Culture and Society (CIRCUS) into the new University-wide research initiative UUniFI.

Final report from the evaluation of HERO

At the meeting, the final report from the evaluation of the Higher Education and Research as Objects of Study (HERO) centre was presented.

The evaluators’ most important conclusion in the report is their recommendation that HERO’s mission should be clarified. The evaluators see a need to make a clearer choice between whether HERO should primarily be a platform that facilitates and coordinates interdisciplinary interaction between researchers within and outside the University, and that translates the research results into politically relevant insights and recommendations; or if HERO should primarily to be a research centre whose staff are expected to contribute significantly themselves to the research front and not just indirectly by facilitating the work of others.

The meeting also presented HERO’s annual report for 2024 (reg. no.: IDEHIST 2025/3).

Organisational placement of CIRCUS

In 2024, the Vice-Chancellor started up a University-wide initiative called UUniFI that aims to promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research to meet complex societal challenges. A project group has been tasked with investigating the organisation of UUniFI, which included proposing how CIRCUS might be integrated into UUniFI.

Since CIRCUS is currently placed under the Disciplinary Domain of Humanities and Social Science, the project group’s proposal for integrating CIRCUS into UUniFI has been discussed in the Disciplinary Domain Board, and the Board approved the organisational model proposed in the project group’s final report at its meeting on 9 April.

Read more about the project group’s proposal in the article Proposal for UUniFI’s organisation published on the Staff Gateway on 8 April 2025.
