Workshop: How can we use VR to practice presentation skills?

During this workshop, you will learn how VR headsets can be used to help students practice presentation skills and manage speech anxiety. With support from staff at the Operational Support Unit, you will get the opportunity to try using the VR headsets yourself.

Håkan Fleischer, PhD in Education and Educational Developer, Pedagogical Development & Interactive Learning, Faculty of Education, Göteborgs University.

This lunchtime lecture presents the main ideas from the book Lecturing as a Student-Active Method (Studentlitteratur, 2025). The lecture is discussed as a teaching format that can be both engaging and student-centered—when carried out consciously and pedagogically. Through practical examples, the author demonstrates how lectures can stimulate activity and learning on micro, meso, and macro levels. Key themes such as structure, personal engagement, motivation, and the learning environment are highlighted, along with concrete tools for making lectures more interactive and meaningful for students in higher education.

This workshop builds on the lunchtime lecture “Lecturing as a Student-Active Method”. In this session, we will explore how lectures can be planned and delivered to actively engage students at various levels. Together, we will try out concrete methods for creating engagement during lectures, discuss the lecturer’s role and approach, and reflect on how lectures can be integrated into course design to enhance student learning. You are warmly welcome to participate even if you did not attend the initial lecture.
