Uppsala Comprehensive Cancer Centre was created to improve the care of cancer patients and to link cancer care and research. In autumn 2024, the centre will undergo a process to be accredited according to European standards and on 15–16 October, international reviewers will visit Uppsala to see if the centre meets the requirements.

To meet a growing need for cancer care, Uppsala University Hospital, Uppsala University and the Regional Cancer Centre for Central Sweden have together formed Uppsala Comprehensive Cancer Centre (UCCC). The aim is to coordinate care and research in the field of cancer, to develop and improve operations and to provide patients with the best possible care.

In autumn 2024, the centre will undergo an external audit to be accredited according to the criteria defined by the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI). During the site visit on 15–16 October, reviewers from OECI will examine, among other things, how the centre is structured, how patients are treated and cared for, what the quality work looks like and how research is conducted, from basic research to clinical research.

“Through interviews and tours, we will present all parts of the centre, from different aspects of care to patient involvement, education and research. The OECI reviewers will then provide a report we will use as we move forward in the accreditation process,” says UCCC Director Ingrid Glimelius.
