The EU has granted new funding to the International Master’s Programme in Innovative Medicine. This will allow 80 students to attend the programme from autumn 2025

Students from across the globe from autumn 2025

“We are thrilled to share that the EU has granted us over €4.6 million through a new Erasmus Mundus award. This will allow us to continue with the International Master’s Prgramme in Innovative Medicine (IMIM). Beginning in September 2025, we look forward to welcoming students from across the globe to embark on this exciting journey with us,” says one of the programme directors at Uppsala Univeristy, Masood Kamali-Moghaddam, Professor at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology.

IMIM has a strong focus on translational research, clinical innovation, and entrepreneurial management, combining scientific and clinical knowledge with innovation, entrepreneurship, and interpersonal skills. A total of 80 selected applicants, divided into four consecutive cohorts, will receive a full European Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarship and attend the programme at two of the four participating European universities.

Tartu new full partner university

The programme is coordinated by the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and was developed together with Heidelberg University in Germany and Uppsala University. In Uppsala, two departments are responsible for the programme – the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology and the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology.

“Recently, the programme expanded when the University of Tartu in Estonia was added as a new full partner university. In addition, the Latin American universities Universidade de São Paulo in Brazil, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad de Antioquia in Colombia, and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México participate in the Master’s degree programme, along with Kyoto University in Japan and over forty life science companies,” says Gerli Rosengren Pielberg, the other programme coordinator and Docent at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology.

Currently, the grant agreement is being prepared. The funding is subject to the signing of this agreement.
