Major grants for Medfarm in 2024

Last year was an excellent year for the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy in terms of grants awarded.

Strong funding from both the Swedish Research Council and the Swedish Cancer Society

In total, Medfarm’s researchers received SEK 273 million in grants from the Swedish Research Council during the year. In the field of Medicine and Health, SEK 156 million went to the Disciplinary Domain.

Two researchers who stand out within Medicine and Health are Anna Dimberg, Professor at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, and Helen Wang, Docent at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology. Anna Dimberg was awarded a project grant of SEK 10 million over 5 years for the project Ny blodkärls-rikterad terapi för hjärntumörer. Helen Wang received a consolidation grant of 9.2 million SEK over 5 years for the project Mekanismer för plasmidkopievariation i bakteriell patogenes och antibiotikresistens.

The Swedish Cancer Society awarded a total of SEK 161 million in grants to the Disciplinary Domain.

“2024 was an excellent year for Medfarm’s researchers in terms of funding from both the Swedish Research Council and the Swedish Cancer Society,” says Carin Marciszko, Research Adviser at the Faculty Office for Medicine and Pharmacy. “One remarkable aspect is that we received roughly the same amount of research funding from the Swedish Cancer Society as we did from the entire Medicine and Health call at the Swedish Research Council. So, we are incredibly strong at securing funding for cancer research.”

Several major grants

Medfarm also performed well outside the Swedish Research Council and Swedish Cancer Society. Several researchers from the Disciplinary Domain were involved in projects that secured substantial grants from other funders.
