Apply for research funding from the Sjöberg Foundation

The call for grant applications for cancer research from the Sjöberg Foundation is open until 31 March. In this year’s call, research groups can also submit a joint major application to build a national network for research.

Sjöberg Foundation mainly supports patient-orientated research focusing on prevention and care, early diagnosis and difficult-to-treat cancers with a poor prognosis, as well as drug repurposing.

Several Uppsala researchers have previously received support from the Sjöberg Foundation. One of them is Marika Nestor, who in the summer of 2024 was granted SEK 18 million for one of the Foundation’s flagship projects, in which collaborative projects between different universities were awarded extensive and long-term support.

“My partners and I are working on molecular radiotherapy of cancer, which means local treatment by delivering radioactive substances into the tumour. It is a great honour to receive one of the Sjöberg Foundation’s flagship grants. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to drive molecular radiotherapy forward as a groundbreaking treatment method,” she says.

In the current call, individual researchers can apply for grants of up to SEK 7.5 million over three years. In addition, research groups at Sweden’s university hospitals can submit a joint major grant application to build and consolidate a national research network.

The application process is divided into two rounds, with a project proposal to be submitted by 31 March. Project proposals selected after an initial evaluation should submit a full application by 10 September 2025.
