“The meeting opened up new opportunities for collaboration, particularly in projects where the Public Health Agency of Sweden’s health data is a key component,” says Mats Larhed, Vice-Rector of the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy.
The delegation also attended a presentation by Linus Sandegren, Professor at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology and Director of the Uppsala Antibiotic Center (UAC). He spoke about UAC and its integrated perspective on antibiotic resistance, and about its interdisciplinary work across all disciplinary domains at Uppsala University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).
The presentation was followed by an extended discussion and questions, after which Elin Svensson, Professor of Pharmacometrics, spoke about new treatment options for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. Josef Järhult, Professor of Infectious Diseases, concluded with a presentation on resistant intestinal bacteria, patient carriage and their presence in watercourses.
“We also discussed how Uppsala University and the Public Health Agency of Sweden can collaborate rapidly and effectively in the event of crises. This may involve points of contact within the University, the secondment of staff, and how we can quickly establish the necessary projects and functions,” concludes Mats Larhed.
