Overview of the workshop
Target group
The workshop is open to researchers, teachers, doctoral students and academic leaders – anyone who leads academic seminars.
Content
Organizing seminars is a common way in academia to gather people to exchange experiences, discuss, review texts or simply for a mutual exchange of ideas. In the best case scenario, all seminar participants get to speak and dare to try their ideas and thoughts. In the worst case, the seminar becomes an environment where academic hierarchies and gender orders manifest themselves and limit conversations.
In this workshop we will discuss how you as a seminar leader can build an open and permissive seminar environment, and how you can stimulate participation and democratic conversations through conscious seminar exercises. The participants will also get the opportunity to try some exercises during the workshop.
