Occupational health services

Uppsala University's occupational health service exists to prevent work-related ill health, and to help employees return to work as soon as possible after sick leave through work adaptation and rehabilitation.

Employees in need of medical care that is not considered to be work-related are referred to a regular family doctor. This is not paid for by the employer.

The university's occupational health service is Falck (formerly Previa). Avonova is Falck's subcontractor in Visby.

All bookings are made via Falck's customer page.

Employees covered by occupational health services:

  • All permanent employees
  • All fixed-term employees, including all employed doctoral students regardless of their activity level.
  • Other admitted research students (doctoral students) who are deemed by the head of department/equivalent to be conducting active studies.

In case of uncertainty, the head of department/equivalent can consult with the HR department's contact persons.

Researchers and others with employment at another organisation are not covered.

Anonymous counselling/supporive talk

Each staff member has the possibility to contact and visit a psychologist/behaviourist at the occupational health service on his/her own initiative in case of ill health affecting work, without prior consultation and approval from the head of department/equivalent. These visits are called anonymous counselling or, as you can see on Falcks web page, supportive talk. Each employee has the opportunity to book two anonymous counselling sessions/supportive talks per calendar year. Bookings are made via a web form, see link list.

Things to consider when booking:

  • When booking, make it clear that it is an anonymous call.
  • NOTE - you do not need to fill in rows for client/cost centre/reference.
  • If you want the call to be conducted in English, please indicate this when booking.

Health profile at 50, 55, 60 and 65 years old

The service includes the following elements:

  • Health counselling on lifestyle issues based on questionnaires on e.g. diet, alcohol, drugs, gambling, tobacco, exercise, stress, sleep and perception of own health.
  • Measurements and tests (e.g. blood pressure, BMI, waist circumference, glucose, cholesterol, iron).
  • Fitness test
  • Reflection and summary of the results

The supplier calls employees via email with an offer of a health profile by age range. The offer is sent from Falck twice a year (January and August/September).

Employees who are offered to complete a health profile have the opportunity to book an appointment for it within one year of the offer being sent from the supplier.

Follow-up of any abnormal test results is normally done by another healthcare provider, and is not paid for by Uppsala University. Sampling of, for example, thyroid hormone, PSA and any allergy tests are not included.
