The Department of peace and conflict studies (DPCR) is launching an annual lecture series in honour of its founder Professor Emeritus Peter Wallensteen.

For the inaugural Peter Wallensteen Lecture DPCR is delighted to welcome Professor Mary Ellen O'Connell from the Kroc institute. She will deliver a lecture titled “AI for Peace”, drawing on her extensive expertise in international law and her current research on AI in the military domain. Her talk will explore how AI applications can help achieve compliance with the prohibition of force, which is a key principle of international law.

– Professor Wallensteen's contributions to peace and conflict studies have been profound, particularly through his work on conflict resolution and peacebuilding. In celebration of his 80th birthday and as a tribute to his enduring legacy, we are launching this annual lecture series to bring together leading scholars and practitioners to discuss the most pressing issues in peace and conflict research, says head of department Ashok Swain.

The Peter Wallensteen lectures are geared towards a wide audience, including scholars, students, policymakers, and members of the public.

The lecture will take place on 20 May at 14.15 in the Humanities Theatre, Uppsala. A reception will follow.
