Virginia Grande is finishing their PhD on role models in computing and engineering education. The main outcome of this work is a framework that supports reflections on role modeling. In particular, it scaffolds educators’ analysis of how they can be and are role models for their students (whether we want to, are aware of it or not!). Educators can then apply this to their own disciplines and contexts, discuss with colleagues, and guide their students in similar reflections. In this seminar we will discuss the importance of role modeling in education and how we as educators can think of our own role in this phenomenon.
