Abstract
The discovery and development of a new drug constitutes a long, complex, and high-risk process. On average, it takes more than 10 years and costs up to US $2.8 billion to develop a new drug. Most drug discovery projects never make it into clinical studies and then a substantial proportion (80–90%) of drug candidates fail in clinical trials. Artificial intelligence plays a pivotal role in reshaping entire industries, including healthcare and the pharmaceutical industry. Its primary aim is to reduce the time and cost involved in drug discovery while improving Effectiveness. This lecture will guide you from elementary to advanced levels of AI, illustrating how this innovative technology is transforming the landscape of pre-clinical drug discovery. From machine learning algorithms predicting potential drug candidates to de novo compound design using generative AI, AI presents unprecedented opportunities for accelerating the drug discovery process. The presentation will explore case studies, emphasizing successful applications of AI, particularly in predictive and generative modeling. Additionally, I will briefly explore the necessary skill set for individuals aspiring to become experts in AI-driven drug discovery.
