The presentation explores how the political art of the 60s–80s not only carries out a ‘material turn,’ but also anticipates an early critique of extractivism through its work with different ‘raw materials’, such as sugar, milk, meat, and even garbage, while exposing the complicity of ‘formalist’ art in these extractive logics.
Jens Andermann, Professor of Spanish and Portuguese and an internationally recognized scholar of modern Latin American art, film, and literature, affiliated with New York University. His work explores the intersections of film, literature, architecture, and material culture with extractivism, the legacies of coloniality and ecological transition.
All welcome!
