For this literature seminar we will read The cognitive challenges of effective teaching, S.L. Chew and W.J. Cerbin. J. Econ. Educ. 2022, 52, 17–40. https://doi.org/10.1080/00220485.2020.1845266

In this paper the authors describes nine challenges that teachers need to address to enhance student learning. These include lack of prior knowledge, ineffective learning strategies, poor transfer of learning, and constraints of mental effort and working memory. The nine challenges are described with recommendations on how to address each one. This makes up a research-based framework that can guide teaching practice.

With the paper as a starting point we will discuss challenges in our own teaching and ideas for how to overcome them.

If you wish to have a sandwich, please send an e-mail to Pia Westerlund, tur-teknat@uu.se at the latest on February 6. Don´t forget to include any dietary requirements.

Welcome,

TUR
