Do you want to help create a short open course that contributes to Sweden's green transition?

Through the Short Courses for Professionals initiative, the government wants to increase the skills of professionals in the field of green transition. The aim is to provide knowledge and skills that support the transition to a fossil-free energy system. For 2025, Uppsala University has a planned budget for open courses (i.e. short courses that are not credit-bearing) of SEK 7.5 million.

The causes of global warming are well known and documented. In this call, you can apply for funding to develop and deliver courses that go one step further. The open courses will provide participants with concrete knowledge and skills that can contribute to the green transition. Open courses do not require academic qualifications, but may have recommended knowledge requirements.

We are looking for open courses in the following 10 subject areas:

  • Production (within companies)
  • Construction sector
  • Engineering and technology
  • Energy
  • Urban/social planning
  • Materials/raw materials for the green transition
  • Other areas relevant to the green transition
  • Economy and marketing
  • Health and well-being
  • Environmental/climate communication, behavior and interaction

Funds for a course

You can apply for SEK 250 000 to develop and implement a course. The funds are for course development and to deliver the course on at least one occasion. The design/structure of the course is not specified but can be e.g. MOOC, course with digital teaching or pre-recorded digital teaching material combined with digital teaching. The initiative is intended to test and design forms of teaching that are suitable for the target group of professionals.

About the design of the courses

The courses must be fully developed with course start no later than November 1, 2025. For payment of funds, a course structure must be posted on Studium by September 15. Funds are paid out during September.

The size of the course must correspond to a credit-bearing course of 3 credits. You must have a plan for how the course can eventually be given as a commissioned course or credit-bearing course, or survive as a MOOC.

We prefer that the courses are given in Swedish, but it is not a requirement.

Approved courses will be marketed on e.g. learning4professionals.se during the spring semester. As a teacher, you develop the course as usual in Studium and are offered pedagogical support during the development of the course.

A formal decision on the budget for the initiative will be made by the government at the end of the year. Any changes may affect the number of courses.
