Opportunities for training and development have been shown to be a reliable and consistent predictor of retention of employees, but strategic application of these learning and development opportunities is pivotal to the success of any intervention seeking to improve employee retention.

What do engineers need at different stages of their careers? How can we encourage students to critically reflect on their needs before they enter the labor market to set them up for success at lifelong learners?

In this presentation, Darren Carthy will discuss how Engineers Ireland is working towards ensuring that engineers feel equipped for the ever changing business environment they find themselves operating within, and how Industry and Higher Education can work collaboratively to achieve this goal.

Darren holds a PhD in Engineering Education from TU Dublin and has worked in the field of Engineering Education both as an academic and within Engineers Ireland in the quality assurance of both industry-led and University programmes for the past 8 years having worked with companies in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, consultancy, civil & building sectors, as well as with state agencies on a range of professional development programmes.
