Did you miss your department’s research ethics seminar for doctoral supervisors?
Welcome to a seminar for all supervisors at the faculty on research ethics in the doctoral education
The faculty has decided on targeted training for supervisors about their responsibility for the research ethics development of doctoral students, and has given TUR (the Council for Educational Development at the Faculty of Science and Technology) the task of implementing these in collaboration with the departments. The adaption to local circumstances allows us to discuss relevant ethical issues, utilise experiences and knowledge, and provide a good basis for continued collegial discussions.
During the seminar, we will focus on how supervisors can discuss research ethics issues with doctoral students in relation to their own research. It has to do with good research practice as well as how to follow rules and guidelines. Among other things, we will discuss intellectual rights, documentation, plagiarism (including the use of AI-generated text) and falsification of research results. The doctoral students' view of research ethics in doctoral education will be treated through a presentation of a recently completed survey. There will also be opportunities to discuss research ethics issues that you bring up.
Ethical theory, which the doctoral students learn about during their courses, is included as background, but will not be touched upon directly. For those of you who need to apply for ethical review, a special event will be organized for that particular theme only together with other institutions.
We encourage you to send a mail to tur-teknat@uu.se if you plan to participate in the seminar.
For those interested, there are references to rules and texts below.
Best wishes
Maja Elmgren, Katarina Andreasen och Nicusor Timneanu, TUR, Council for Educational Development at the Faculty of Science and Technology
