At the end of August, the Faculty leadership together with partnership representatives travelled to Ludvika for a leadership dialogue. The purpose was to set the direction for the coming year and prioritise which activities will be most relevant in the partnership. The programme also included a study visit to Hitachi’s production facility.

Looking ahead to future research initiatives

During the coming autumn and spring, the new research initiatives from the government’s research bill will begin to take shape. In the partnership with Hitachi Energy, there are several natural intersections, including within some of the newly announced excellence clusters.

Charlotte Platzer Björkman, Vice-Rector, Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology, also highlighted the importance of the concrete exchanges already taking place in the collaboration. Over the past year, around 250 students from the Faculty have visited Hitachi’s operations in Ludvika, and several student projects are currently underway.

The partnership also drew attention to the Verification for Collaboration (VFS) initiative, which allows researchers and industry partners to explore new questions of mutual interest and assess whether there is potential for long-term collaboration.

“A partnership with great potential”

– The collaboration with Hitachi is both productive and promising. It is a partnership embedded in long-standing traditions with enormous potential for growth, both in education, where joint initiatives contribute to course development and quality enhancement, and in research, where Hitachi engages in strategically important initiatives and research centres, says Saman Majdi, Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Partnership manager.
