Names in the news in Science and Technology

Grants, appointments and prizes in the field of science and technology:

Ginevra Castellano, Professor of Intelligent Interactive Systems, has received a grant from WASP-HS of SEK 3.6 million (out of SEK 11.5 million) to coordinate the establishment of a multi-site research group on child development in an era of AI and social robots. Katie Winkle, Associate Senior Lecturer at the Department of Information Technology, is part of another research group, Autonomous Systems and Robotics in Society, which has also been awarded a WASP-HS grant.

Martin Qvarnström, researcher at the Department of Organismal Biology, has been awarded a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC).

Thomas Schön, Beijer Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Department of Information Technology, has been elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in the class of technical sciences.

Ulf Danielsson, Professor of Theoretical Physics at Uppsala University, has been awarded the 2025 Lars Salvius Prize (in Swedish).

Peter Lindblad, Professor at the Department of Chemistry – Ångström, and Valentin Troll, Professor at the Department of Earth Sciences, have been awarded the Björkén Prize.

Eszter Borbas, Professor of Synthetic Molecular Chemistry, and Ginevra Castellano, Professor of Intelligent Interactive Systems, are two of the recipients of the 2025 Thuréus Prize. Sara Lindersson, postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Earth Sciences, is one of the recipients of the 2025 Benzelius Awards. All prizes are awarded by The Royal Society of Sciences in Uppsala.

Andreas Strömbergsson, Professor of Mathematics, is one of three researchers to receive this year's Rudbeck Medal.

Tobias Andermann, researcher at the Department of Organismal Biology, is one of the recipients of the 2025 Oscar Prize.

Joseph Minahan, Professor of Theoretical Physics, previously received an ERC Advanced Grant of EUR 2.5 million over five years.

Åsa Cajander, Professor of Human Machine Interaction, has previously been awarded a three-year grant of almost SEK 5 million from Forte for the project ‘Workplace Violence in Digital Healthcare: Understanding Challenges and Developing Guidelines (DIGI-RISK)’, of which SEK 4.5 million will be allocated to the department.
