With an aim to transcend institutional differences in historical research, the ”PhD Colloquium for Historical Studies” investigates what it entails to do historical work. Over the course of multiple seminars, doctoral students are invited to meet and discuss both differing and overlapping perspectives on historical studies.

This time it will feature a presentation by Aske Stick from the History Department, on the topic of "The violence in the archives: Violence and the bodies of runaway slaves". The presentation will focus on empirical material from Aske's thesis and discuss the problems of dealing with depictions of violence in a meaningful way.
Attendees need to register beforehand, but do otherwise not have to do any preparatory work. Discussion is based on a presentation held by one of the PhD students.
Most importantly, sandwiches and fika is provided for attendees to allow for a sociable and welcoming atmosphere.
