Pillar 2 includes calls for collaboration projects within six research areas. The pillar also holds the parts Missions, European Partnerships and Joint Research Centres.

Calls for collaboration projects
The calls provide the opportunity to apply for research grants for a consortium of partners, with at least three partners from three different countries. This part of the program contains six clusters, which each has calls in different research areas.

Missions
Missions is an integrated part of Horizon Europe, with strategically targeted research and innovation initiatives for specific objectives. The projects will contribute to innovative solutions in selected areas: Adaptation to Climate Change, Cancer, Restore our Oceans and Water, Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities and Soil Deal for Europe.

European Partnerships
The European partnerships are collaborations between the European Commission, private actors and/or public actors in the Member States. The aim of the partnerships is to address some of Europe’s most urgent challenging, using coordinated research and innovation initiatives. There are 49 calls for partnerships, including EIT KIC.

Non-nuclear direct actions of the Joint Research Centre
The Joint Research Centre is the European Commission’s science and knowledge service. The center employs researchers to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU politicians and policy makers. This part of the Horizon Europe supports various parts of the framework program and promotes the exchange of knowledge between EU-countries, the research community and international partners.
