MAW Project Grants
The Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Memorial Foundation (MAW) mainly supports research projects with high scientific potential within the humanities. Prioritized projects include new research areas and research of a cross-border nature.
The foundation supports projects of high scientific potential that focus on a coherent scientific question. A project should have an independent objective and not only constitute additional funding for ongoing projects.
A normal project has a budget between SEK 1 and 5 million during three to five years.
Current call
The next call deadline is April 1, 2025. Register your interest below, and join the information meeting 11 Feb 2025.
The call 2025
In 2025, MAW will have two targeted calls:
- Youth psychology/psychiatry
- Research projects in the humanities of relevance to the use and conservation of forests. MAW prioritizes research projects connecting to the WIFORCE program's general goals regarding the future use and conservation of forests.
Application instructions
Researchers who intend to apply for projects in this call must register their interest no later than February 4, 2025.
The budget template for the application is specific to the Wallenberg foundations. Therefore, research support can only guarantee budget support if someone responsible for the budget template at the department, e.g. economist, attends an information meeting on February 11 at 13:00 – 14:30 in Nornan, Segerstedthuset.
This is necessary to complete the funder's specific budget template. Additionally, the responsible financial officer at the administration needs to review the budgets before the application is submitted, which means they must know in advance how many budgets there will be.
When drawing up a budget for MMW projects, Wallenberg's own budget template must be used. The researcher must contact his departmental economist early on to discuss the items in the budget and to complete a draft budget.
It is the head of department who handles the internal prioritization and signs the mandatory letter of support. The research advisors at Humsam's Research Support Unit (after 1/1 2025 we are at the Department for Research and Collaboration Support) help with the formulation of the letter if the researcher so wishes.
In the box "Links" above there is a template for the letter of support ("Support letter template").
In connection with the registration (see above), more information will be sent to interested researchers via e-mail.
