Inventory of needs

The Swedish Research Council sets infrastructure priorities in a recurrent process over a two-year cycle. The first step in the process is an inventory of needs aimed at identifying new research infrastructure needs of national interest. The outcome of the needs inventory then serves as a basis for the Swedish Research Council’s targeted call for support for infrastructure. For more information, see the Swedish Research Council website.

Uppsala University sets its research infrastructure priorities in a three-stage internal process:

  1. Researchers report needs in line with the criteria set up by the Swedish Research Council for the relevant year. This may involve completely new research infrastructures or further development of existing research infrastructures.
  2. The needs presented are assessed by the relevant disciplinary domain in two rounds. Prioritised needs are then assessed by the University’s Research Infrastructure Board, which presents its recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor.
  3. The Vice-Chancellor decides which research infrastructure needs of national interest will be backed by Uppsala University.

The deadline for submissions in the latest needs inventory at Uppsala University was 24 April 2023.
