Application Terms

Assessment

The projects will be assessed by a committee consisting of a faculty representative from each Disciplinary Domain, three student representatives and educational developers from the Unit for Academic Teaching and Learning. The evaluation committee will make recommendations for the distribution of the announced funds to the Vice-Chancellor, who will make the final decision on fund allocation

The assessment process aims to ensure that the resulting funded projects will be of high quality. Therefore, it is not guaranteed that the entire announced amount will be proposed for distribution. In addition to the basic requirements, the following assessment criteria will be used when evaluating applications:

  • The project engages students as active co-creators in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of the project.
  • The project is based on a dialogue and collaboration between teachers and students that utilizes their different knowledge, perspectives and experiences and contributes to the development of education.
  • The project clearly relates to proven experience and pedagogical research in active student participation.
  • The project includes a clear plan for planning, implementation, evaluation, and how experiences will be shared in the local context and university-wide.

Allocation of Funds

A decision on the allocation of funds will be made by the Vice-Chancellor in January 2024. The funds can be requisitioned at the beginning of 2024.

Timeline

The call for project funds and the work of the projects is divided into four stages; Announcement and allocation, Start-up, Implementation and Evaluation and dissemination. The four steps with associated time periods and important dates are illustrated in the images below. Workshops and meetings will be organized to support the implementation of the projects. The projects that are granted funds will receive more detailed information about the content of the workshops and meetings.

Recruitment of Students

Projects must be planned, implemented, evaluated, and disseminated in partnership between teachers and students. Therefore, recruiting students for the project is a fundamental requirement. In this call, students at the bachelor's or master's level are referred to as "students."

The application form should specify how student recruitment will be conducted. Please indicate if you encounter challenges in recruitment. The Unit for Academic Teaching and Learning will be able to provide support, if necessary.

Budget

The total budget or estimated cost of the project should be specified in the application form in accordance with the template that is linked below. The projects should be co-financed by the relevant department(s) to cover any overhead costs incurred. It is not an obstacle if project funds are included in larger educational development projects funded from other sources. However, please specify if funds have been sought or received from other sources for a similar purpose.

In the "Budget Estimate" section of the application, the planned use of allocated funds should be presented in text or table format.

Support Structure

Projects receiving funding are expected to collaborate with the Unit for Academic Teaching and Learning and will be linked to a support structure through meetings and workshops, totalling six hours per month from January to August 2024. The aim is to establish a university-wide network and forum for exchanging ideas and experiences during the course of the projects.

Evaluation and Dissemination

Project evaluation will be carried out through the following;

Evaluation of the project will take place through:

  • A written report (maximum 1300 words) that can be published on a website. It must contain a:
    - Description of how the project idea came about and the purpose of the project
    - Summary of the project’s implementation (what did you do? how did you do it?) where the most important events are highlighted
    - Summary of the project's results and a description of how these will be disseminated
    - Evaluation and reflection on the project as a whole
  • A presentation of the project in the form of a podcast or film (max. 7 min)
  • A budget follow-up, i.e. a financial report on how the project's funds were used. The follow-up must be in pdf format.

The written report, the presentation of the project and the budget follow-up must be sent to Lovisa Håkansson, lovisa.hakansson@uu.se, no later than 31/10 2024.

For recording the project presentation, a tip is to use the Studio in Blåsenhus, where technical and educational support is available.

It is highly desirable that all project members (including the students) participate in evaluation and dissemination.

The project reports and recorded presentations will be published in the form of web pages on Uppsala University's website for active student participation, with the aim of collecting examples and spreading them further within the university, nationally and internationally.

To further summarize the projects, share lessons learned, and disseminate them beyond the local contexts, the projects will be offered the opportunity to present at Uppsala University's pedagogical conference, held every two years. The presentations will take place in a separate track with active student participation as the theme.
