AI Fundamentals: How Does It Work?
In this workshop, we will explore the underlying mechanisms of generative AI to enhance our understanding of the technology’s possibilities and limitations. We will seek to understand the ‘’what’s’’ of algorithms, neural networks, probabilistic models, statistical methods and data-driven techniques that power generative AI technologies.
AI, Grading and Assessment
How can generative AI serve as a tool for teachers in assessment processes? What guiding principles should teachers consider when recommending or restricting the use of generative AI during assessments? This workshop will explore these questions and examine issues such as legal implications, grading, fairness and efficiency in the context of generative AI and assessment.
Prompting
Enhancing our ability to “prompt” generative AI systems (interact with them to achieve desired outcomes) is important for unlocking their potential. In this workshop, we will design various prompts and collaboratively reflect on the outputs generated by generative AI systems. Through this process, we will explore aspects of good prompt writing and how refined prompting techniques can significantly improve results.
AI, Case and PBL
Since generative AI can swiftly produce materials, it can be a supportive tool to develop scenario exercises, such as creating storylines for role-plays and drafting dialogues, as well as generating case studies for problem-based learning. In this workshop, we will explore how AI can support teaching and learning with the Case and PBL methods in various subjects.
Towards a Critical AI Literacy
In this workshop, we will examine various pedagogical activities that can foster the development of AI literacy. Emphasis will be placed on different capacities that many claims need to be cultivated in higher education since the wider introduction of generative AI. However, we will also take a step back to consider whether generative AI truly requires the acquisition of ‘new competencies’ that have not been taught in higher education before, or if it merely underscores the need to place greater emphasis on training of such competencies.
AI and Ethics
The use of AI in educational contexts highlights ethical aspects such as sustainability, bias, hallucination, personal integrity, inclusion and academic integrity. In the workshop, we will familiarise ourselves with them and discuss what responsible use of AI in higher education could entail.
AI and Feedback
Feedback is essential for student learning. One of the many applications of generative AI is that it can, when appropriately used, provide rather detailed, actionable and personalised feedback on student assignments and assessments. The workshop will address the current possibilities and challenges of using generative AI for such tasks.
AI and Course Design
This workshop will be concerned with AI systems and course planning processes. For example, AI can assist in creating course schedules, learning objectives and more. But, we have to ask ourselves: in what ways can generative AI in the form of LLM’s (Large Language Models) really be useful for course design, and how can we use it critically?
Educational Quality and AI
Generative AI highlights the issue of educational quality in higher education, involving a discussion about the role of teachers, the future of knowledge, future learning outcomes and educational standards. Through collaborative discussions and individual time for reflection, we will in this workshop discuss this wide and thought-provoking matter.
Developing Assessment and Teaching Materials Using AI
Different AI tools can swiftly produce various teaching and assessment materials which, after review by teachers, can be incorporated into courses. Lecture plans on specific content, multiple-choice questions (MCQ’s), essay questions and questions suitable for written or oral exams are just some examples. In the workshop, we will go through an array, and discuss how AI tools can be best ‘’prompted’’ according to the teacher’s needs and student learning.
AI and Group Learning Processes
One often acclaimed hope with generative AI is that it can support the creation of individual learning paths for students. Nevertheless, since group work is an often used teaching method at universities, given its clear benefits for learning the subject and developing generic capacities, it is tempting to investigate if generative AI can support and possibly accelerate group learning too. This will be the topic for this workshop!
AI, Supervision and Thesis writing
The workshop will delve into how AI tools can possibly enhance and support students’ thesis writing process and the accompanying supervision. We will explore practical applications of AI in the context, by looking at AI feedback and AI-generated research insights and simultaneously discuss complicated challenges and limitations that typically appear.
AI and use of recording facilities
Have you considered whether AI could assist you in planning or carrying out a recording or studio activity? Welcome to a workshop where you in a playful format, will explore how AI could be used as a tool for studio activities or recordings, based on the studio's various positions (podcast, learning glass, lecture including green screen, and lounge area).
AI and Academic Writing: Experience a ChatBot from a Student’s Perspective
Note! You need to bring your computer to this workshop!
The Language Workshop’s session is for all teachers, from enthusiastic aficionados of generative AI to those who have not yet typed their first prompt. All feelings and attitudes toward generative AI are welcome. The purpose of the hands-on workshop is to give teachers an opportunity to try using generative AI in the writing process from a student’s perspective through a series of exercises. The workshop provides teachers with a more solid foundation for deciding whether and in which ways students in their classes might benefit from using generative AI as a writing aid (or not!).
AI features in Studium
In this workshop, we will go through the different AI-functions recently released in Studium that can possibly enhance your teaching.
