News about YouTube videos in Studium
Starting on September 22, 2025, embedded YouTube videos may begin showing ads directly in the course. These ads are controlled by YouTube and cannot be disabled within Canvas. To avoid this, we recommend migrating your YouTube videos to Canvas Studio, which also provides enhanced functionality for teaching.
Why move your videos to Canvas Studio?
- Students won't see ads in share YouTube videos.
- Canvas Studio offers a better viewing experience and captions.
- There are extra features, like viewing analytics, embedded quizzes and discussion comments.
How to migrate YouTube videos
There is a migration tool that can be used to scan through the course and locate all videos coming from YouTube.
In the course menu, click on Settings. Then click on the Feature Options tab.
Find and select the option for YouTube Content Migration and enable it. Refresh the page, and you will then see YouTube Content Migration appear in the course menu. The tool is not visible for students and can be deactivated when you hare finished migrating videos.
